Making a Giraffe bone and Damascus custom knife

Its no secret that in 2020 DB Blades has grown massively. We've gone from making knives in batches of 5-10 to making knives in batches of 100-200. This is great for business and definitely keeps the bills paid. But it doesn't leave much room to be creative. So this weekend I took a break from production to make something very unlike my usual style. Featuring some Lorien forge damascus steel, Gi...

Dude this titanium 25mm thick piece is maybe for 2 thick knives or 3 thiner knives. You loose this expensive material doing one thickest knife which is unnecessary man.How many grind belts did you used, maybe 4-5 belt, and it's stupid man think about it next time you making knife?!?

The problem with knife makers is they're makers not designers they make ugly stuff that isnt unique and drop it in a market full of other makers, making boring knives. Also why buy a subpar diy knife when china is making better knives. You gotta be unique and know what specialty designs are actually wanted

How would you make these type of Fold Pocket Knifes without a belt sander? What you call these type of folding pocket knifes with the finger flipper stud? Can you make these with a file set, angle grinder, hand tool sand paper and a fire pit with leaf blower to anneal the steel?

I’m a little confused, and maybe It’s different for cryo heat treats, but for the heat treat wouldn’t you need to quench the blade while it’s still hot? If the blade was cool enough that you dropped it in with your bare hand, that means the steel didn’t harden on the quench since it air cooled first, right?

Great advice especially on pricing. It's only recently that I've taken it full time, as my ONLY job, and made a realistic assessement of how much my priced are and what my costs are comprised of. I WAS just taking into account steel, handle material, and that was IT......Totally failing to take into account epoxy adhesives, abrasives, propane for heat treatment, drill bits, all sorts of stuff that costs money and needs to be paid for!

Total Boat epoxy is about the best epoxy on the market and has quite a few different formulations to suit any need. Suspend your knife vertically and mix a small batch of epoxy and pour it over the handle startimg from the base of the blade. Let it cure and keep repeating until you have it built up to where you want. Let cure and finnish with sandpaper. OR build a mould that will encase the handle a bit oversized and make your pour. Then use a grinder, sander or dremel to take the handle to where you want it. Sand to 1000 grit, then polish with diamond paste or plastic polishing compound if you want it shiny

Is there any reason you didn't at least grind the main portion of the bevel before heat treat, to keep from having to not only having to grind hardened steel, but also to have less risk in overheating and messing with the heat treat? I don't know much about this particular steel (more of a high carbon guy, personally) not sure if there is some positive trade off or what the reason may be?

Good video restoration without shop full of expensive tools. Only additions is to remove rust from deep pits is old Naval Jelly and let rest for a while. The original formula left a rust resistant coating. The darkened patina I prefer over shiny. The dark patina was well earned by the knife. Shiny is merely user vanity. After removing rust jelly residue I wash blade in hot soapy water and super dry with hot hair dryer blower. When cool then sharpen to keen. I then properly measure out a small bit of two part epoxy and apply a thin coating to the now clean and dark blade. I use food measuring spoons for precise measuring of small quantities. The epoxy is a long term protection for the blade on normal use. The protected blade now looks and functions as a sharp old veteran.
